Typically, these investments are more risky than say, the stock market, but offers a huge upside potential if the project is a success.
Venture capitalists usually want a huge market with huge potential in return for investing their money in a risky operation.
Venture capitalists sometimes invest alone, but are often part of a group that pools their funds together to invest large sums of money in promising projects related to the contributors fields of expertise.
These venture capital groups can have millions of dollars to invest, but may only invest in 1 in 400 or 1 in 500 or more projects they are presented with.
